Indictment filed for a war crimes case

Pristina, 20 April 2017 - Today, a Prosecutor with the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK) filed an indictment at the Mitrovica Basic Court against the Defendant Z.V. a former police reservist with the police in Vushtrri/Vucitirn for actions alleged to have taken place between the villages of Studime e Eperme/ Gornja Studimlja and Studime e Poshtme/ Donja Studimlja, Vushtrri/Vucitirn Municipality and the Agricultural Cooperative Premises, Vushtrri/Vucitirn on or about 02 May 1999,as well as actions and conduct which allegedly occurred at the Smrekovnica Detention Centre , Mitrovica Municipality in the weeks following this event. 

The defendant is accused of: War Crimes against the Civilian Population, according to criminal code of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ) and current Kosovo criminal code, in violation to rules of international laws effective at the time of the internal armed conflict in Kosovo. These crimes include brutal and unlawful killings, inhuman treatment, causing immense suffering, application of measures of intimidation and terror, property confiscation, pillaging, and stealing on large scale of property that was not justified. 

The Indictment was filed by an International  Prosecutor following the extradition of the defendant from Montenegro.
