EULEX assists extradition process

28 December 2012

Today, B.S., fugitive wanted by the Slovak judiciary, for his role in large scale trafficking in narcotics, was extradited from Kosovo to the Slovak Republic.

At the request of the Slovak authorities and in agreement with the Kosovo authorities, EULEX provided assistance to the extradition process. EULEX facilitated the appropriate transmission of the request for extradition from the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic to the Ministry of Justice of Kosovo, as well as the subsequent surrender of the person from the Kosovo Police to the Slovak Police.

B.S., a Slovak and Serbian citizen, was arrested in Kosovo in October this year on the basis of an INTERPOL Red Notice published by Bratislava. The decision to grant his extradition was taken by the Minister of Justice following the decision on the permissibility of the extradition of the District Court of Gjilan/Gnjilane, upheld by the Supreme Court of Kosovo.

The extradition of B.S. represents a commitment to fight trans-national crime and impunity in order to ensure that justice prevails.
