Police launch formal appeal for information

26 September 2013

26 September 2013

This morning, KP and EULEX police launched a formal appeal for information about the murder last week of Audrius Sevanicius, a EULEX customs officer who was killed as he was on his way to work. His convoy was ambushed in the vicinity of the 'Banjska Junction', about 7 km north of Zvecan/Zveqan in northern Kosovo.

Since that time, KP and EULEX police have been working hard to establish the facts of the case. Today they are launching an outreach effort in northern Kosovo, and will be going door-to-door, asking local citizens if they can recall anything about the events of last week.

The police will be distributing a leaflet, which reads:

Dear Citizen,

At 07:45hrs, on the Thursday 19th September 2013, Audrius Šenavičius was murdered whilst driving to his place of work. He was a Lithuanian customs officer working to bring peace and stability to Kosovo. His murderers leave behind a distraught widow and two children.

We appeal to you to have courage and help us in bringing the perpetrators to Justice. If you have any information that can assist the police, do the right thing and contact the police or this number +381 38 78 6565 or +386 43 78 6565.

Regards,
SPRK Prosecutor

A EULEX Prosecutor from the Special Prosecution Office in Kosovo (SPRK) is the lead Prosecutor in the case.

This is one of a series of initiatives that KP and EULEX police will carry out, in order to generate information from the local population. It is a standard policing practice and KP and EULEX are hopeful that someone has seen something, and if so, that they will say something.
