Antero Lopes is a senior international executive from Portugal with over 40 years of national and international experience, including nearly three decades in senior leadership roles within United Nations secretariat, and peace operations and special political missions.
Before his appointment as Head of Mission of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), he has served in complex peace operations across Europe, Africa and Asia, including UNPROFOR in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and, recently, UNMIK in Kosovo.
He has extensive experience engaging with governments and senior political and institutional stakeholders, and civil society.
His areas of expertise include diplomacy, rule of law, security sector governance, crisis management, mediation, and institutional reform.
He holds advanced degrees in Political Science, International Relations, and European Studies from the University of Lisbon and the College of Europe (Bruges) and completed executive training in senior management and public governance at Harvard University.
