Press Release

Central Bank Governor case

19 November 2010

A EULEX pre-trial judge from the Prishtinë/Pristina District Court has released the former Central Bank Governor H.R. from detention on remand but imposed a number of restrictive measures as an alternative to the detention.

The release came following a request from the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office (SPRK) which said it had secured enough evidential material in the ‘Central Bank Case’ and that a release from detention on remand was consistent with the overall strategy of the prosecution.

H.R. continues to be subject of investigation. The charges in the case relate to: abuse of official position or authority, trading in influence, money laundering, tax evasion and accepting bribes.

The judge imposed a number restrictive measures on the defendant. These measures include:

  • the defendant is prohibited from approaching premises of the Central Bank of Kosovo,
  • the defendant is prohibited to contact directly or indirectly other co-defendants, any former or current employees, directors, board members and owners of a number of companies, institutions, and organisations which are part of the investigation.
  • the defendant paid the amount of €20,000.00 euros as part of his conditional release on bail
  • all travel documents of the defendant are temporarily confiscated and he is obliged to appear at the police station in Prishtinë/Pristina once a week
