Gender Mainstreaming matters

08 March 2016

Gender Mainstreaming is a globally accepted strategy for promoting gender equality. Mainstreaming is not an end in itself. It represents a strategy, as well as an approach and means to achieve this purpose.

The Mission’s work with Kosovo Institutions, society and internal structures, shows strong commitment towards the inclusion of gender prospective in all of its activities.

The Mission makes sure that all of its regulations and activities are designed in compliance with internationally recognized gender-equality standards.

The mission’s management carries out the overall responsibility for gender mainstreaming whereas our staff is obliged to take a gender perspective into account in their duties.

In order to provide advice and support, the Mission has two gender advisors who cooperate closely with a network of gender focal points throughout the units. This network ensures that a gender perspective is taken into the perspective  within their units.

During last month EULEX Gender Advisors together with Ms. Gabriela Elroy from the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) in Sweden, organized a series of meetings with the Mission’s gender focal points (GFPs) and senior management to continue working on the establishment of a gender focal-point system.

The main aim of these meetings was to promote, facilitate and support the implementation of gender mainstreaming throughout EULEX.
