On 19 September 2026, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) commemorated the 13th anniversary of the tragic death of EULEX Lithuanian Customs Officer, Audrius Šenavičius, who was killed in the line of duty on 19 September 2013.

Thirteen years on, Audrius remains deeply remembered, and to honour his memory and sacrifice, the Mission organised a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial site where Audrius’ vehicle came under attack.

The Ambassador-at-Large and Head of the Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Skopje H.E. Vilma Dambrauskienė, the Kosovo Police Deputy General Director for Resources, Dejan Janković and the Deputy Regional Director North/Acting Regional Director North, Lieutenant Colonel Veton Elshani, joined the EULEX Head of Mission Antero Lopes and other Mission Members in paying respect to Audrius, who lost his life in his support to the rule of law in Kosovo.

“I am humbled to address you on the same place where 13 years ago our dear colleague, Lithuanian customs officer Audrius Šenavičius, was killed in the line of duty. Today we pay respect to Audrius, who was a dedicated and loving father, husband, son, friend, and colleague. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, who still feel the impact of his absence,” Lopes said.

Despite the best efforts of both EULEX and the Kosovo Police, the crime remains unresolved until today. “Investigations are ongoing and we will never stop pursuing justice. Audrius and his family deserve it. Once again, I will bring forward EULEX’s appeal to any person who may have information that can assist the Kosovo Police in the investigation, to please step forward. Let us remember Audrius Šenavičius and the ultimate sacrifice he made,” Lopes concluded.

Ambassador Dambrauskienė recalled how Audrius was not only a Lithuanian Officer and a member of EULEX Mission but, above all, a person who came here to serve, to contribute his knowledge and experience and help strengthen the rule of law and build a safer future.

“No passage of time can erase such a loss, and we stand with them in remembering Audrius and honouring his life and service,” she stated, thanking the Mission on behalf of the Embassy of Lithuania, for keeping Audrius’ memory alive.

Kosovo Police Deputy General Director for Resources, Dejan Janković, extended the deepest respect to Audrius’ memory on behalf of the Kosovo Police. “Audrius was a member of EULEX who served the people of Kosovo to ensure law enforcement and safety in this part of Kosovo. His death was a tragic loss, not only for his family and Lithuanian people but also to us as Kosovo Police and everybody who served the people in Kosovo,” he recalled, stating that the Kosovo Police remains determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and will never give up investigating this case.

Audrius Šenavičius was 35 years old when he was killed after the EULEX vehicle in which he was travelling came under fire from unknown persons in northern Kosovo. He had served with EULEX as a Customs Officer and, before joining the Mission, he had worked for the Lithuanian Customs Department.

EULEX appeals to any person who may have information that can assist the police to come forward. The Mission offers a reward of 82,000 euros for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator or the perpetrators of this murder.
