On 17 June 2026, 168 local and international Mission Members of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) were awarded the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Service Medal in recognition of their dedicated service and contribution to the Mission’s mandate in Kosovo.
The ceremony, presided over by the Head of Mission, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, marked an important moment for EULEX, bringing together Mission Members from across its different components and functions to recognize their collective effort, commitment and professionalism in supporting the implementation of the Mission’s mandate.
During his address, Barbano thanked all medal recipients for their tireless work and dedication, emphasizing that the EU’s CSDP Service Medal - awarded by the EU High Representative/Vice President Kaja Kallas to deserving women and men serving in CSDP missions - is a symbol of recognition for their invaluable contribution.
Barbano underlined that EULEX’s achievements are the result of the combined efforts of both local and international staff upholding EU values and standards and he noted that local Mission Members have been at the heart of EULEX’s presence in Kosovo since its establishment, providing expertise and sustained commitment. Their contribution, often carried out behind the scenes, has been essential to the Mission’s success and long-term impact.
