On 29 July 2025, as part of his travel to Kosovo, the Irish Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and at the Department of Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, honored the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) with a visit to its Headquarters, where he was received by the EULEX Head of Mission, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, and had the opportunity to meet with Mission Members of the Irish contingent.
Byrne was accompanied by the Ambassador to Hungary, Montenegro and Kosovo, Ragnar Almqvist, the Deputy Director of the Enlargement and Southeast Europe section, EU Division, Adrienne Hickey, and by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Daniel Griffin.
During the meeting, Byrne and Barbano exchanged notes on the current security situation in Kosovo and the Mission’s role in promoting the rule of law, while Barbano expressed his gratitude to Ireland for its steadfast support to EULEX, through the secondment of highly skilled and qualified personnel.
