EULEX Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Domestic Violence with Graçanicë/Gračanica Municipal Community Safety Council

On 19th May 2025, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), in coordination with the OSCE Mission in Kosovo organised a roundtable discussion providing a platform to identify ways to enhance prevention and protection mechanism for victims of domestic violence.

In light of the crucial role played by Municipal Community Safety Councils (MCSC) in raising awareness among communities of the phenomena of gender-based violence and in strengthening prevention and protection mechanisms, the event brought together senior representatives from the Municipal Community Safety Council (MCSC) of Graçanicë/Gračanica, EULEX and OSCE officials, as well as community and faith leaders.

Opening the discussion, EULEX Gender Advisor, Chiara Tagliani, expressed appreciation to the OSCE Mission in Kosovo for facilitating the event and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts and a multisectoral approach in tackling such a critical issue.

Graçanicë/Gračanica MCSC Coordinator, Milica Krstić, reaffirmed the Council’s steadfast commitment to combating domestic violence, underscoring the importance of sustained institutional and community engagement.

Adding a faith-based perspective, the Head of the Islamic Community in Pristina and member of the Graçanicë/Gračanica MCSC, Imam Hetem Sopjani, stated firmly that, as preventive tool, messages condemning domestic violence are regularly delivered during Friday prayers, in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

EULEX reiterated its ongoing commitment to working closely with Kosovo institutions and civil society to enhance prevention, protection, and prosecution related to domestic violence cases.
