Security Training
Deployment of personnel in the field in crisis or potential crisis situations is never entirely risk-free. The level of threat against personnel in crisis management operations has increased significantly in recent years. Working to assist others in situations of strife and political turmoil, personnel deployed in such operations are not only exposed to collateral consequences of conflict and criminal violence; increasingly, they are also themselves becoming targets of forces who wish to disrupt and prevent the return to conditions of peace, stability and a viable society.
It falls on the member states and contributing third states to ensure deployed personnel have the appropriate level of maturity, skills and training to work in a potentially hazardous environment, However this does not distract from the fact that it falls to each individual deployed in the field to exercise common sense and good judgement with regard to their own safety and security, as well as the requirement for them to comply with all security rules, regulations, procedures and instructions.
Crisis management intrinsically entails risk. The purpose of security measures is to reduce this risk to an operationally acceptable level. The aim of this web page is to provide initial advice to potential candidates in order for them to better prepare to meet mission security challenges, with the aim of ensuring that all reasonably practicable measures are taken to protect personnel deployed outside the European Union from harm and injury.
This site includes a number of computer based trainings (CBT) which are designed to allow each individual to broaden their knowledge and understanding of security at their own pace. Both the Basic and Advanced CBT contain valuable information relevant not only to this potential missing but also a number of ongoing missions around the world. However certificates of completion will only be held within the CSDP data base for the possible EULEX mission to Kosovo. Successful staff will be able to obtain a copy from security when in the Mission.
