Man found guilty of murder

01 August 2013

A panel of EULEX judges at Mitrovica Basic Court on 30 July 2013 found Remzi Hasanaj guilty on the charge of murder and sentenced him to eight years imprisonment. The Court only assessed the murder charge, as per the decision of Court of Appeals of 26 March 2013 where the retrial of this count was ordered, following the appeal of the defense. The Court found that the defendant on 18 November 2010 at around 10:45 at the place called Ura e Gjakut in Mitrovica deprived Musa Durmishi of his life, by attacking him with a knife and stabbing him eight times in different parts of the body. The victim died on his way to the clinic in Mitrovica.

The Court also established the aggregated punishment of eight years and three months imprisonment between the current sentence and another punishment of one year imprisonment applied to Defendant by the Court of Appeals' decision for unauthorized possession of weapons.

In a separate ruling, the Court decided to cancel the detention on remand and impose house detention on the defendant until the verdict is final.
