Stones thrown at EULEX

29 July 2013

In an apparent response to the EULEX arrests this afternoon in northern Kosovo a EULEX vehicle on a regular patrol was stopped in Zvecan by a group of demonstrators. When the EULEX police officers tried to talk to the protesters, stones were thrown. Two EULEX police officers were injured and the EULEX vehicle seriously damaged. In an act of self-defense one of the EULEX police officers fired a warning shot in the air.

EULEX strongly condemns this act of violence. While EULEX supports the right to peaceful demonstration, we call upon people to stay calm and let the rule of law take its course.
