Seven acquitted in Prizren on war crimes related charges

4 February 2013

A mixed panel of one EULEX judge and two local judges, presided over by the EULEX judge at the Basic Court of Prizren acquitted seven defendants for war crimes related charges.

The panel of judges found the defendants Ejup Kabashi and Sokol Bytyqi not guilty of the charge of war crimes against the civilian population, because it was not proven that in July 1998 they applied measures of intimidation and terror against the Serbian civilian population of Opterushe/Opterusa. The defendants Mustafa Hoti, Milaim Hoti, Naser Hoti, Nexhmedin Berisha and Jetulla Kabashi were found not guilty, because it was not proven that they assisted Ejup Kabashi in committing the abovementioned crimes.

The case was prosecuted by a EULEX special prosecutor from the Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo.
