Supreme Court orders retrial in extortion case

A mixed panel of one EULEX judge and two local judges, presided over by a EULEX judge at the Supreme Court, ordered a retrial against seven defendants charged with extortion and contracting a disproportionate profit from property.

The Supreme Court panel approved the appeal of the public prosecutor and annulled the verdict of the District Court of Prizren sending the case back for retrial.

The defendants Skender Nimani, Marjan Kçira, Tun Kçira, Selim Kastrati, Valon Kyqyku, Afrim Berisha charged for the criminal offence of extortion and Nezir Kryeziu charged for the criminal offence of contracting a disproportionate profit from property, were all acquitted by the first instance court.

The case was prosecuted by a Kosovo public prosecutor from the District of Prizren.
