Appeal granted in extortion case

24 October 2012

A mixed panel of one EULEX judge and two Kosovo judges, presided over by the EULEX judge at the Supreme Court, partially granted an appeal in an extortion case.

An appeal filed on behalf of the defendant Njazi Tahiri was partially granted and his prison sentence was modified from two years to one year of imprisonment. An appeal filed on behalf of the defendant Besim Tahiri was rejected as unfounded and his sentence of 3 three years of imprisonment was confirmed. Both men are found guilty of having committed in co-perpetration the crime of extortion.

The defendants had extorted 20,000 euros from two brothers by threatening them, their families and business in April 2011 in Gjilan/Gnjilane.
