Terrorism case: 10 years imprisonment

30 June 2011

A mixed panel of EULEX and Kosovo judges of the District Court of Prishtinë/Priština sentenced Amir Sopa, also known as Kadri Kameri, to ten (10) years and one (1) month of imprisonment following his convictions for the criminal offences of terrorism and unlawful possession of weapons.

The court found that Amir Sopa actively participated in a terrorist organisation - the Albanian National Army (AKSH) in 2003. On 20 July 2003, Amir Sopa fired a missile from an illegally owned rocket launcher at the office of the Chief District Prosecutor in the building of the District Court of Prishtinë/Priština. On 10 May 2003 he sent a letter with death threats to Ismet Beqiri, who at that time held the position of Mayor of the Municipality of Prishtinë/Priština.

The prosecution was represented by a Kosovo prosecutor from the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office.

The verdict was announced on 29 June 2011. Parties may appeal the verdict within 15 days.
