‘Great co-operation between Kosovo Police and EULEX’

The EULEX Head of Mission, Yves de Kermabon, had a warm and friendly meeting with Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi, whilst on a visit to Obiliq/Obilić and Gazimestan.

The Head of EULEX visited the local police station in Obiliq/ Obilić for a briefing on the current work of the local KP and EULEX Police.

“We’ve created a safe and peaceful environment here,” said Lieutenant Bashkim Bytyqi, commander of Obiliq/Obilić police station.

“We have had no significant inter-ethnic incidents. Relations between the different communities are very good here. And we have had great co-operation with EULEX. We work very closely together,” he added.

The Head of EULEX praised the work of the local police. “This is a good example of KP and EULEX working together very well,” said Yves de Kermabon.

The local EULEX advisor at the station, Leonard Mendoza from Texas, was full of praise for the local police. “We have worked very closely with them. Their success is a result of good, hard work. They are committed and real professionals at the station,” said Mendoza.

The Head of the EULEX Mission and Minister Bajrami then visited the Gazimestan memorial on the outskirts of Pristina. Recently, responsibility for the protection of this cultural monument was handed over from KFOR to Kosovo Police. EULEX police have played a supporting a role in monitoring the KP during the process.

"This is a good opportunity to show that we can provide security and safety for cultural monuments", said Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi.
