EULEX Kosovo Justice Component

One of the central aims of the Justice Component of EULEX is to improve and strengthen Kosovo's judiciary to make it fully multi-ethnic, impartial, free from political influence and capable of holding fair trials according to international standards and best European practices.

EULEX judges and prosecutors exercise their functions according to objective criteria established by law. They work closely with their local counterparts in a mutually trustful relationship. EULEX judges and prosecutors also mentor, monitor and advise their colleagues.

The Justice Component comprises about 420 people. Of this, around 70 people work in the prison system and there are more than 50 judges and around 30 prosecutors.

The people working in the EULEX Justice Component are in every day contact with the Kosovan administration of justice. They share their skills and experience with their local counterparts. Kosovo institutions will benefit from this and, as a result, trust in the judicial system should increase.
