New Head of EULEX Assumes Her Duties

Today, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou has taken up her duties as the new Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX).  Ambassador Papadopoulou, a senior Greek diplomat with extensive experience in the Balkans, has previously served in Kosovo as the Head of the Greek Liaison Office in 2000. Her most recent appointments include serving as the Permanent Representative of Greece to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, as well as Director General for EU Affairs in the Greek Foreign Ministry during Greece’s recent Presidency of the EU in 2014.  Additionally, Ambassador Papadopoulou has served as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, as well as the Head of the Greek Liaison Office in Skopje for five years.  

"I am delighted to be the new Head of the EULEX Mission which continues to assist authorities in building an independent and efficient rule-of-law system here in Kosovo," said Ambassador Papadopoulou.

In the following days and weeks, Ambassador Papadopoulou will be meeting EULEX’s key partners and senior Kosovo officials.  Ms. Papadopoulou succeeds Italian diplomat Gabriele Meucci.
