Supreme Court Returns the Case of the Municipality of Prizren to the Court of Appeals

08 January 2016

Last year, the Basic Court of Prizren found six defendants guilty of alleged corruption related offences. The indictment alleges that suspects had committed various criminal offenses of abusing official position or authority.

On 22 July 2015, the Court of Appeals partially granted the appeals filed by the defence counsel, annulled the appealed judgment of the Basic Court and returned the case to the first instance court for retrial.

On 26 November 2015, a mixed panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Kosovo, overruled the Court of Appeals and approved the appeal filed by the Office of State Prosecutor.  The Court amended the decision of the Court of Appeals which had sent the case back for retrial. The case is returned to the Court of Appeals for reconsideration by a different panel.
